The most famous symbol of Artsakh is the monument “We and our mountains” or “Tatik u Papic”. It stands on a small hill near the entrance to the city of Stepanakert.

The statue created in 1967 by sculptor Sargis Baghdasaryan from Armavir red tuff (Armenian building material of natural origin). The composition, imitating mountain silhouettes, represents two elderly people of Artsakh in national costumes. The statue has an almost imperceptible pedestal, and this, according to the author’s intention, creates the feeling that the figures have grown into mountains, have become related to them. From the height of Grandfather and Grandmother imperturbably look at their centuries-old history, full of struggle for their own land and people.
